Voluntourindia.com was created in 2009 as a non-profit organization committed to connecting volunteers from across the world with underprivileged people from India, while also provided quality tourism planning. Voluntourindia.com is a collaboration between Destiny Reflection (Kolkata), Gosaba Anwesha for Science (Sunderbans) and other charitable organizations with travel expertise from Travel-O-Agencies (Kolkata).
As a volunteer in India, you will have endless opportunities for social work and socio-geographical exploration. India is a country of staggering contrasts. On one hand there are exotic landscapes and historical sites with a history that goes back more than 5000 years, and on the other hand there are millions of people still living below the poverty-line, waiting eagerly for a helping hand. There are metropolitan cities in India that boast of pubs, bars and restaurants that can compete with the best in the world, and there are villages that have never witnessed an electric bulb.

India is one of the few countries in the world that enjoys all sorts of ecological variations from deserts to rain forests, from lush green planes to sky-high mountains, and from historical rivers to world-famous sea coasts. With one of the most ancient cultures in the world, India can be a never ending cornucopia of adventure, revelation and spiritual gratification.

You can enjoy a meaningful holiday if you choose to visit India as a volunteer. As an intermediary organization we assign you to places where you can really make a difference as well as enjoy tourist attractions. You will be able to interact with people at a grassroots level, working among the underprivileged. We will strive to ensure your volunteer experience utilizes your skill sets and allows you to live out your passion.

Visit Varanasi ( 5nights 6 days )

Few places in India are as colourful, charismatic or spiritual as the bathing ghats lining the Ganges in Varanasi. The city of Shiva is one of the holiest places in India where Hindu pilgrims come to wash away a lifetime of sins in the Ganges or to cremate their loved ones. Varanasi, previously named Benares and Kashi (City of Life) – it was renamed after the Varuna and Asi Rivers, which meet here – has always been an auspicious place to die, since expiring here offers moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death). The city is the beating heart of the Hindu universe, a crossing place between the physical and spiritual worlds, and the Ganges is viewed as a river of salvation, an everlasting symbol of hope to past, present and future generations. The magical but sometimes overwhelming city is where the most intimate rituals of life and death take place in public on the city’s ghats. The accessibility to the practices of an ancient but still living religious tradition is what captivates many visitors, and a walk along the ghats or a boat ride on the river is one of India’s most absorbing experiences.

Places to Visit in Varanasi

Being the oldest city of the world and an important Hindu pilgrimage center, Varanasi attracts a large number of people from all over the world. For centuries, Varanasi is famous for spiritualism, mysticism, Indian philosophy and Hinduism. All these are reflected in numerous sects, temples, Ashrams and Ghats. Varanasi is associated not only with Hinduism but also with Buddhism and Jainism. Besides numerous temples, Varanasi also boasts of Buddhist Stupas and Jain temples. Varanasi is also a mirror of the age-old Indian civilization. The archaeological museum at Sarnath houses numerous remains of the past, including the National emblem of India, the Ashoka pillar.

Since Varanasi is mainly associated with Hinduism, temples form the main attraction. The Ganga Ghats (river fronts) are the main center of religious activities and rituals and also form one of the main attractions of Varanasi. The Alamgir Mosque, blend of the Hindu and Mughal styles of the architecture, is another important attraction of Varanasi. Some of the most important temples of Varanasi are Durga temple, Vishwanath temple, Sankat Mochan temple, Tulsi Manas temple and the Bharat Mata temple. The Bharat Mata Temple houses a huge relief map of the whole of Indian subcontinent and Tibetan plateau. Other attractions of Varanasi are the Benaras Hindu University (BHU), the Archaeological Museum, Sarnath, Bharat Kala Bhavan and the Buddhist Stupas and temples at Sarnath.

Cost : 135 usd per person per day (including train fare )

Tour includes : stay in moderate hotels, local site seeing, visiting NGO’s, local transfer, Indian meals cost includes transfer from KOLKATA and back KOLKATA.

If you’re feeling jaded by the heat and hassles of India,Sikkim is the perfect antidote. It’s clean (plastic bags are banned) and the mountain air is fresh. Best of all the people are among india’s most friendly, with a charming manner that’s unobtrusive and slightly shy. To really savor some true Sikkimese atmosphere, visit a village tongba-bar for some local millet beer: it’s a bit like warm Japanese sake. Plunging mountain valleys are lushly forested, interspersed occasionally with rice terraces and groves of flowering rhododendrons. Tibetan-style Buddhist monasteries (gompas) add splashes of vermilion to the green ridgetops and are approached through atmospheric avenues of colourful prayer flags set on long bamboo poles.

Straddling the Sikkim NEPALborder is Khangchendzonga (Kanchenjunga; 8598m), the world’s third-highest mountain. Khangchendzonga’s guardian spirit is worshipped in a series of spectacular autumn festivals and its magnificent multiple white peaks can be spied from many points around the state.

Gangtok ( 5nights 6 days )

Sikkim’s capital is mostly a functional sprawl of multistorey concrete boxes. But true to its name (meaning ‘hill top’) these are steeply layered along a sharp mountain ridge. When clouds clear (typically at dawn), views are inspiring, with Khangchendzonga poking its pointy white nose above the western horizon. Gangtok’s manmade attractions are minor, but it’s not a bad place to wait out a day or two while organising trekking permits or trips to the north.

Getting there & away

10hrs train journey from KOLKATA and 4hrs drive.(120 km)

Landslides and route changes mean road journeys can take vastly longer than expected. If flying out of Bagdogra, play safe by making the Gangtok–Siliguri trip a full day ahead.

Cost : 130 usd per head per day (including train fare )

Tour includes : stay in moderate hotels, local site seeing, visiting NGO’s, local transfer, Indian meals, cost includes transfer from KOLKATA and back KOLKATA.

Pelling, Ravangla (Rabongla), Namchi

( 5nights 6 days )

Pelling’s raison d’etre is its jaw-dropping dawn view of Khangchendzonga. It’s not so much a town as a 2km string of tourist hotels, but don’t be put off. The view is worth it. Despite hordes of visitors, locals remain surprisingly unjaded,. Don’t miss strolling up to the helipad for even more panoramic views Rapidly expanding Ravangla is spectacularly perched overlooking a wide sweep of western Sikkim, the gompas of Old Ralang, Tashiding, Pemayangtse and Sangachoeling, all distantly visible against a horizon that’s sawtoothed with snow-capped peaks. The town itself is a modern creation of little aestheticdistinction, butusefulas a hub to visit Ralang. Around the main road junction is a concentration of shops, small eateries and plentiful hotels

Soon, two utterly vast statues will be facing off from opposite hillsides across this quietly prosperous market town. The Buddhist one at Samdruptse is already finished, the Hindu one at Solophok is still under construction.

Tour includes : stay in moderate hotels, local site seeing, visiting NGO’s, local transfer, Indian meals cost includes transfer from KOLKATA and back KOLKATA.
